Webinar Day: Preparation & Analysis of Metal Samples

Verder Scientific Inc, Mager Scientific & SPECTRO Analytical Instruments have joined forces to present live, virtual workshops for quality control in the Steel & Foundry Industries. Together we will present education & application information on preparing & analyzing metal samples; “Preparation & Analysis of Metal Samples” and “Preparation & Analysis of Coke, Ferroalloys and Slags”. We will have 2 sessions available for each topic over 3 days. During these 3 days you will hear from experts in sample preparation, heat treatment, metallography & hardness testing, elemental analysis & spark spectrometry.

Verder Scientific is a leader in Sample Preparation, Heat Treatment & Combustion Analysis, bringing paramount expertise to these processes.

SPECTRO Analytical Instruments, leader in optical emission spectroscopy & XRF, brings unsurpassable knowledge & experience in the iron & steel making process.

Mager Scientific, leader in sample prep & hardness testing, brings incomparable knowledge from years of experience working within the Steel & Foundries Industries.

Schedule

Sample Preparation for OES and Combustion Analysis

Choosing the correct cut off saw and wheel type are critical to kicking off the sample preparation process. We’ll take an up-close look at how the Qcut 150A cut off saw would meet many needs as well as other choices in the lineup.

Presenter
Ryan Fowler, Hardness testing specialist at Mager Scientific, with over 25 years’ experience in material preparation, hardness testing, and image analysis

Analysis of Metal Samples by Spark Spectrometry

SPECTRO, the arc/spark innovation leader, has spent more than 40 years developing the world’s leading OES instruments. Now, it’s perfected the use of solid state detectors with the proprietary CMOS+T technology to revolutionize high-end arc/spark OES analysis. The SPECTROLAB S is designed to supply the fastest possible measurements; lowest limits of detection; longest uptime; and most future-proof flexibility.  We’ll be taking a close look on how the technology breakthroughs in the SPECTROLAB S provides precise heat control and certification of steel.

Presenter
Mike DeLeon, Ph.D., Mike is the Applications Department Manager and Sales Manager for the OES Product Line for SPECTRO Analytical Instruments North America. His academic career includes a wealth of experience in a variety of analytical techniques such as AFM, TEM, High Resolution XRD, XAS, NEFS, TEY, and SEM-XRF. He also participates in ASTM committees to further international standards and specifications crucial for the various industries we serve.

C&S and ONH-Analysis with Combustion/Inert Gas Fusion

ELTRA Elemental Analyzers provide optimal solutions for Interstitial Gas Analysis of Metals, in accordance with ASTM E1019 Standard Test Methods for Determination of Carbon, Sulfur, Oxygen, and Nitrogen in Steel, Iron, and Nickel Alloys by Combustion and Inert Gas Fusion. With the ELEMENTRAC CS-i & ELEMENTRAC ONH-p, we will be extensively examining this process & providing application support for this part of the QC process.

Presenter
Cesar Ballester, Sales Manager for our Eltra product line at Verder Scientific Inc, with a background in Chemistry & Engineering.

Heat Treatment of Finished Products

Carbolite Gero will highlight standard lab and industrial solutions for various post process heat treatments of finished parts. This includes ovens, chamber furnaces, and tube furnaces.

Presenter
Michael Hager, Business Unit Manager for our Carbolite Gero product line at Verder Scientific Inc, graduated from Rutgers University with a bachelor’s degree in Material Science & Engineering and has extensive knowledge in Heat Treatment in laboratory settings.

Micro and Macro Hardness Testing for all Steels

We’ll be taking an in-depth look at how the Q30A+ micro hardness tester can automate and simplify the case hardness depth analysis of heat treated samples. With the Qpix Control2 software it has never been easier to consistently obtain quality results.

Presenter
Ryan Fowler, Hardness testing specialist at Mager Scientific, with over 25 years’ experience in material preparation, hardness testing, and image analysis

Material verification and inspection with mobile spectrometers

When looking to verify your incoming or outgoing material, no need to bring a sample to the lab, bring the lab to the sample.  Our SPECTROTEST and SPECTROPORT mobile metal analyzers provide ‘laboratory-like’ data in a mobile format.  With our solid state detector arrays and robustly designed optics, the SPECTROTEST and SPECTROPORT give you excellent sensitivities, precision and extremely stable analysis.  With our iCAL, intelligent calibration, single sample standardization, you’re not wasting time getting the instrument ready and are able to be more productive. With a variety of flexible options and comprehensive data handling routines, the SPECTROTEST and SPECTROPORT can provide rapid on-site analysis wherever you need it.
